 Yasuo Sakurai, Chief Instructor
In 2005, Sakurai Sensei attained the rank of 7th Dan with the Japan Karate Association (JKA). He has been training in traditional Shotokan karate for over 40 years. Living in Japan, Sakurai Sensei is the Chief Instructor and Chief Examiner for Shizuoka prefecture. He is also the Chief Instructor for JKA-BC (formerly NASKA) and has been for over 20 years. 


 
   
Don Sharp
Sensei Don, 6th Dan, is a National Level Instructor, was one of the BC team coaches for the KBC and National Team Coach for the JKA.  He is the Chairman of JKA-BC Technical Committee.

 Salvina Sharp
Instructor Salvina Sharp (JKA Yondan) has won several medals at the provincial and national level. She has been a competitor and a coach for the BC Karate Team and was once named to the JKA National Team.  In 2010 Savina Sharp tested for and was granted the rank of Yondan at JKA Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan.

 
 
 Graham Mallett
Graham Mallett has been studying karate since 1967.  He holds the rank of 4th Dan as well as JKA certification as "D" Instructor and "D"  Judge.  He is the senior instructor of the Tsawwassen club.  He holds a Ph.D in Education and recently retired from the Faculty of Education at UBC.


 
   
 Joe Lappan
Sensei Joe Lappan began his study of karate in 1983. He holds the rank of 3rd dan and is certified as an official by both Karate BC and the JKA. He also holds a NCCP Theory 3 Certificate. Sensei Joe is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and is a Vice-President and Investment Advisor with RBC Dominion Securities.

 
   
  Michael Doherty

Michael Doherty has been pursuing the art of karate-dō since 1976. He holds the rank of 5th dan as well as JKA certification as a “B” Instructor, “C” Examiner, and “B” Judge. He is the senior instructor at the North Vancouver club, is a member of the JKA-BC Technical Committee, is the Secretary of the Canadian national JKA organization (JKASKDWOC) and is a Karate B.C. Senior Referee. He has earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in each of political science and law and is currently pursuing a PhD in law.  He is employed as General Counsel with Canada’s Department of Justice, and has been a lawyer since 1989.

Ashraf Omeria

Ashraf has been studying karate since 1979.  Ashraf holds the randk of 3rd dan as well as "D" Instructor and "D" Judge.  He is one of the instructors at the Tsawwassen dojo.
